The Unseelie Court: refreshing humor
About
The Unseelie Court is the first book in the Frotwoot's Faerie Tales series written by Charlie Ward. This is also the author's debut novel.
Blurb
The Seelie and Unseelie Courts are at war.
On one side: Noble knights, fighting for freedom. On the other: Not-so-noble terrorists, fighting for the right to rule.
Caught in the middle: A very confused, very lost teenage boy from Indiana.
His name is Frotwoot Crossley. And he's about to find out that, somehow, that's not even the weirdest thing about him...
Review
I enjoyed reading this book. Humor is hit or miss with me, and while I certainly missed plenty of context and word-based puns, I found myself laughing frequently.
The pacing was nice throughout, especially once the setting moves to the fae. I finished the book in a day.
The plotting was intricate, mixed well with world-building and a dash of mystery.
Characters (both primary and secondary) were well written. And I liked that one of the magical beasts got a few memorable scenes.
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟☆
What others are saying
From Esme's review on goodreads:
I really liked the audiobook, it was well performed and had multiple people voicing. It’s a light fun read that was a breath of fresh air from all the grimdark epic fantasies I’ve been reading recently.
From Amy Bruno's review on goodreads:
Frotwoot’s tale is a fun mystery with plot twists and knightly adventures. Dragons, magic, body glitter and politics all mixed together. Enjoy the ride
